We love to talk about it, fight for it and even celebrate the glorious idea of freedom.
But what will we be doing with that freedom once it’s attained?
At one time or another, the majority of us have been counted among the marginalized, the oppressed and the underdogs. Most of us know what it’s like to be on the bottom rung rather than the top, counted among the faceless followers rather than part of the heady, ruling elite.
But what will we be doing with freedom once it’s attained? And how will we comport ourselves for our own benefit as well as society at large?
We often find fault with current leaders, and frequently with good reason. We criticize the supposedly free class for their self-serving constructs and over-indulgent behaviors.
We long for a day when paradigms reverse and we can step out in all our glory, devoid of constraints imposed by others. In those musings, we suppose ourselves to be the morally superior replacements for current power structures.
However, when finally freed to express ourselves fully, a question remains. Will we truly arise into better leaders and higher level standard-bearers?
